Masina. She translates to both “moon” and “month” in Samoan. Our ancestors in Samoa used the moon to help tell time and develop the monthly calendar, making Masina the keeper of time and the tides. Masina is also a common Samoan name, including the beautiful, confident, and fiercely independent force that was my Nana. Masina. My guiding light in times of darkness. My forever muse.
